Just my opinion, of course, but here’s the greatest headline ever written in the history of direct advertising…

Most People Are Too Busy Earning A Living To Make Any Money

That gem comes from the late Joe Karbo’s celebrated full-page ad of the 1970s, which sold millions of copies of his classic, self-published book The Lazy Man’s Way to Riches.

The genius of that headline is its relatability.

Admit it. When you read that headline just now, you nodded to yourself and thought, yeah, ain’t that the truth.

You were simpatico to that old Karbo message immediately.

How come?

Because in your gut, you know it’s true.

Most people — maybe including you — are too damn busy earning a living to make any money.

So two quick lessons today…

First, as marketing pioneer Robert Collier used to point out, great advertising headlines “always enter the conversation already taking place in the customer’s mind.”

You can take that little piece of business wisdom directly to the bank.

Second, if you recognized the truth of Joe Karbo’s headline, you’re probably spending too much time on the 9-to-5 treadmill right now and too little time hammering out a truly profitable future for yourself.
