Services
All right, here’s something you oughta know right off the bat.
If work ain’t play for me, I try not to do too much of it.
Remember…I’m that lazy ne’er-do-well who wrote the book on how to make money while enjoying a pastry and nice cup of dark roast.
I like things easy. I like to enjoy what I’m doing.
Here’s stuff I enjoy most:
1. Shooting the breeze and talkin’ with my buddies.
2. Drinking dark beers. And single-malt scotches. And when I’m feeling snooty, wine.
3. Smoking cigars.
4. Reading all kinds’a things.
5. Writing fun stuff.
6. Whenever possible, doing two or more of these things in combination.
You can’t make a lotta money doing any of them. I know that, fer krysakes!
But as much as possible, I try to anyway.
So, keeping that in mind, here are a few services I provide. (The idea being that you pay me to do them. And if you’re happy with the results, and I have a good time providing them to you, that’s swell.)
But I deliver these services sparingly. Usually as my mood dictates.
Coaching
Here’s where I chew the fat with you one-on-one on the phone about (1) stuff I know something about, or (2) things you think I know something about.
I rigorously avoid coaching that falls into category 2. If you approach me about something I’m not qualified to help you with, I’ll try to lead you to good people I think can help you, or I’ll at least point you in a better direction (at no cost to you).
But here’s what I know a lot about:
Marketing, direct response copywriting, idea brainstorming, blogging, producing guerilla podcasts, quickie product creation, press releases, personal branding…
Plus other stuff you’ll find me talking about frequently at this website.
Right now, I charge $150 (paid upfront) for each hour of phone time.
If you have questions or want to set up a coaching session (or series of sessions), click the contact button on the navigation bar you’ll find on each page of this site.
Blog Writing, Article Writing and Email Writing
First of all, I think anybody who’s trying to drive traffic and sales through blogging or article writing, or who’s trying to sell via email, should be writing their own crap.
There, I said it.
Because I believe it.
People buy from you when they feel they know, like, and trust you. And the best way for people to know and trust you is to put yourself out there openly, do your own writing, and let your personality shine.
You don’t have to write especially well. And your writing doesn’t have to be perfect.
It just has to be genuine.
But I know some people are just blocked when it comes to writing. They’re convinced they can’t do it.
OK, maybe I can help.
My rate is currently $97 for a 250-400 word blog post or article, with headline. My rate for writing a 3-5 letter email “campaign” (complete with subject lines) falls in the $300-$600 range.
Sure, you can go to Elance.com and find people willing to write articles for you at five bucks a pop. But then, you get what you pay for.
You determine whether I’m worth the money. Read my stuff.
You can find samples of my writing all over this site. Plus, you can subscribe to my email list (getting a free copy of my book in the bargain) and read me regularly.
Or you can take a look at these places:

By the way, my writing style is my writing style. I try not to be toooooo “Wally” when I write copy for other people, but it can’t help but seep through occasionally. So once I’ve finished an assignment, you may want to fiddle and make the copy sound a bit more like you.

eBook and Sales Letter “Critiques” and Editing
I worked almost two decades as an editor, with a staff of fulltime writers cranking out copy for me. So I know what I’m doing.
If you’re unsure about the eBook or sales letter you’ve written, or even if you think it’s a shambles, I can shine it up for you with a thorough editing job.
That includes everything but doing a full rewrite: tweaking sentences, shuffling paragraphs, breaking long gray blocks of copy into paragraphs, sliding in subheads, re-ordering chapters, etc.
My rate here is negotiable, depending on the length of your eBook, the shape it’s in, and how much back-and-forth I feel will be required between you and me to get the job done.
Figure, at a minimum, $150 an hour.
But let’s talk.
Critiques are a slightly different matter. Here’s how they work:
1. You email me your eBook or sales letter, and we schedule a one-hour consultation for a week or two later.
2. You phone me at the appointed time.
3. I supply my honest verbal evaluation of your work, and we talk for an hour about how improvements can be made.
Again, my rates depend on the length of the work you submit. But generally, I charge $200 for a standard critique.
Got questions? Please click the contact button on the navigation bar you’ll find on each page of this site. You can even call me, if you must, at (805) 459-2302.
It’ll be a pleasure doing business with you!
