Fear and loathing at the car rental agency

steadmanI wrote last week about the simple skills we forget just because we really don’t have to use ’em anymore.

Stuff like remembering phone numbers, or balancing checkbooks, or reading maps…

And that prompted a funny email from my old college roomie Bob.

Seems he recently rented a car in Orlando, and when he got to his hotel, he found that the key fob to lock and unlock the car didn’t work.

Frantic, Bob called the rental agency’s customer service to get a new key fob, or even another car. They gave him the ol’ runaround, but offered no solution to his problem

Then reality struck.

“It suddenly hit me,” Bob writes, “that there was a key hole in the car door! After several years, I’d forgotten how to unlock a car without an electronic key fob!”

Sometimes, what we gain in technology and convenience, we lose in the most elementary skills.

That’s not always such a bad thing — unless the anticipated zombie apocalypse descends. But there are skills you don’t ever want to lose, like how to align your thoughts, feelings, and actions to move you forward to total satisfaction and success in your life.

Keep sharp, and check this out…
